Movie Making

Movie Making

Moviemaking in the classroom is a fun way for students to engage with different content. This activity offers students a unique, hands-on learning experience that allows them to be creative, collaborate with their peers, and engage in critical thinking. Through projects such as short films, animations, and music videos, students can explore the entire creative process, they can write the script, film, and edit. These types of projects help students develop important skills such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork while using their interests and imagination for moviemaking. By using moviemaking in the classroom, it also allows students to engage with different ideas. They can then apply what they've learned in different ways and express their understanding to others. Overall, moviemaking provides an amazing educational opportunity that gives students skills they can use as they get older.

There are plenty of ways for teachers to integrate filmmaking into their classrooms. Activities that could include filmmaking could be students reenacting a scene from a book they are reading in ELA. Or the students could make an educational film where they discuss issues about climate change, which they are learning about in science. Students could also make a music video showing the music skills they are learning in their music class. "A teacher who wants to integrate filmmaking into the curriculum doesn't have to be a Joey Travolta to make the experience meaningful and generative." (Huerta, 2015) There are plenty of fun ways students can use the skill of filmmaking in their classrooms.

There are plenty of sources students and teachers can use to learn more about filmmaking in their classroom. Here are a couple of examples:
